Blood PressureDetox & LiverSkin & BloodImmunity & Infection

Hibiscus (Rosselle) is the deep red flower used to make bissap across West Africa and the Caribbean. Beyond its beautiful color, hibiscus is one of the most studied plants for blood pressure reduction, with clinical trials showing effects comparable to low-dose ACE inhibitors. It's also a powerful antioxidant and gentle kidney tonic.

Therapeutic benefits

Lowers blood pressure โ€” clinically studied antihypertensive

Diuretic โ€” flushes excess sodium from the kidneys

Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants

Supports skin clarity and elasticity

Mild liver detox

Anti-inflammatory and cooling effect on the body

๐Ÿซ– Preparation & Dosage

Take 1 tbsp dried hibiscus flowers (calyces)

  2. 2

Pour 300 ml boiling water over the flowers

  3. 3

Steep for 10 minutes โ€” do not boil

  4. 4

Drink 1โ€“2 cups per day, hot or cold

  5. 5

Can be served with ice and a squeeze of lime for a therapeutic cold drink

๐ŸŒด Caribbean traditional use

Known as bissap in Senegal and Creole communities, and 'sorrel' in Jamaica and Trinidad (used especially at Christmas), hibiscus is drunk daily across the Caribbean. In Saint-Martin, fresh hibiscus juice is found at every market and roadside stand. Kenan uses it in the Calm Day Blend for its cooling, pressure-lowering properties.

Cautions

May interact with antihypertensive medication โ€” monitor blood pressure if combining. Avoid during pregnancy in large amounts. May reduce iron absorption if drunk with meals โ€” space from iron-rich foods.
